What was once an agricultural and mining area, Jefferson County, is now a growing group of suburban, business, industrial and residential communities. Eleven incorporated cities and towns are located wholly or partially in Jefferson County. Known as “The Gateway to The Rockies”, it is a region where the plains meet the Rocky Mountains. It encompasses 774 square miles with 72 percent being mountainous.
Jefferson County is the second most populated county in Colorado with almost 530,000 residents. Located on the western edge of the Denver metro area, Jefferson County offers diverse geographical settings from urban to thriving mountain communities. The area’s climate is semi-arid with relatively mild seasons, and an average of 255 days of sunshine per year. Jefferson County's award-winning Open Space Program is one of the most ambitious in the nation, striving to preserve access to nature for an ever-growing population.
Jefferson County has a well-educated and diverse workforce, the second largest in Metro Denver and Colorado. Residents and businesses have convenient access to higher educational institutions all within close proximity. Denver International Airport is easily accessible, as are major roadways.
