“Open for business” is the phrase that truly describes the business climate in the Metro North region. In 2000, the Corporation for Enterprise Development, a well-respected policy organization in Washington, D. C., produced an annual “Report Card for the States.” In its report, the organization assessed how well each state’s economy faired in more than 70 benchmark measures. Colorado has earned straight As for seven consecutive years in each of the three major indexes: performance; business vitality; and development capacity. Colorado ranked fourth in the nation in high tech job growth from 1994 through 2000, adding 75,600 new high tech jobs. With the turnaround in the economy, that trend will continue.
Along with the ability, however, comes the attitude. The “can do” spirit of the West is alive and well in Colorado, and entrepreneurs find a supportive business environment. We’re not alone in our praises of the state. Morgan-Quitno Publishing Company’s “State Rankings 2001” awarded Colorado the No. 2 spot in its “Most Livable State Index.” That ranking took into account 43 factors, including economic, education, health, public safety and environmental statistics.
With a highly educated workforce, businesses find employees ready for work. And if further training is needed, educational facilities such as Front Range Community College, Community College of Denver, DeVry University, and Metro State Community College are custom built for specialized education for the changing needs of an evolving workforce. People in business also understand that transportation is vital to success. The Metro North area is at the center point of several major transportation corridors. The newly completed E-470/Northwest Parkway provides a quick route around Downtown, while Interstates 25 and 70 connect the region to the rest of the country.
Just to the east is the newest airport in the country, Denver International Airport. With its spectacular architectural style and efficient layout, DIA is quickly becoming the envy of a nation on the move. So whether you want to open the doors to your own business, or work with a major corporation, the Metro North region can help you achieve your goals.
