Broomfield began as an agrarian community, with hard-working families who located here on the heels of adventurous gold-seekers. Today, Broomfield is one of the fastest growing areas in the Metro North region encompassing 33 square miles with a population over 43,000. The climate is mild year-round with low humidity.
Broomfield is centrally located within the metro area between Denver and Boulder on the U.S. 36/Boulder Turnpike. Two U.S. highways and two State highways intersect at the Broomfield Interchange in the heart of the city and county making for easy access to Denver International Airport and surrounding areas. Corporate jet service is available at the Jefferson County Airport lying immediately adjacent to Broomfield.
Broomfield was Colorado's first master-planned community when it became a city in 1961. As of November 15, 2022 Broomfield became the newest county in the State of Colorado. The city and county's current master plan is being updated and is scheduled for completion in 2004. Broomfield's economy is very diversified with significant employment in manufacturing, services, retail and wholesale trade, government and construction. Broomfield has also been one of the high-tech hubs of employment in the metropolitan area for the last 50 years.
