Times of uncertainty call for foundations of stability. The Metro North Chamber of Commerce has been this foundation of stability for the Metro North region. While the economy continued down an unpredictable path in 2008, the Metro North Chamber has provided the connections and opportunities for many of our local businesses to weather the storm.
That age old adage of “It’s not what you know but who you know” seems to take on a whole new meaning in a slowing economy.Today more than ever we need to answer the questions of how can our communities and business support each other. That’s where having a vibrant, unifying voice for business, such as the Metro North Chamber, becomes the capstone to building and maintaining a healthy business network. The Metro North Chamber is built on providing those essential connections that link businesses together.
The Metro North Chamber’s Business and Governmental Affairs (BGA) Committee has grown in membership participation and continues to work hard to promote regionalism, shape the community, and educate the membership on issues that affect business in the region. Along with BGA, the Development Council Breakfast series hosted a number of important events including the 5th Annual Mayor’s Roundtable, the State of Education breakfast, and the 2008 US Senate Debate between Mark Udall, Bob Schaffer, and Bob Kinsey in one of the most important election years of our nation’s history.
The Metro North Chamber was also dedicated to improving the health of businesses with growing events and programs that offered networking opportunities, premier services, and great benefits. One such benefit was the $655,000 dividend check collected through the Workers Compensation program for the Metro North Chamber members. Additionally, the continued popularity of events such as the Taste of the Chamber, Annual Golf Tournament, and Chamber Challenge 5K has brought a dynamic of “network while you play” that can’t be matched.
Therefore, as 2009 approaches, the Metro North Chamber of Commerce will remain a stable foundation no matter what uncertainty comes knocking at the door. Behind the Metro North Chamber staff, Board, and membership, the Metro North region will continue to be “Open for Business.”
